Does Wise Work in China? Patchy — How to Fix It (2026)

Short answer: Partly. Wise is only intermittently reachable on Chinese networks, but the Wise card works in China when added to Alipay or WeChat Pay or used at ATMs. Verified 30 October 2026.

GreatFire's last test (21 Oct 2026) shows plain HTTP wise.com not blocked but the HTTPS versions of wise.com and www.wise.com intermittently disrupted, so the app or website may time out on a local SIM or hotel Wi-Fi. Set up and verify your card, and add it to Alipay or WeChat Pay before you fly. Wise says its app does not scan Chinese QR codes directly. Without a CNY balance, Alipay converts at its own rate, and WeChat Pay may charge about 3% on conversion purchases over 200 CNY.
