Apple lists China mainland as a supported Apple Pay market, but its support page doesn't say whether foreign-issued cards can be added. The January 2026 expansion covers Chinese-issued Visa cards used abroad, not visitors' cards used in China. A September 2026 UnionPay release says inbound visitors can add international UnionPay cards to mobile wallets such as Apple Pay. Most shops expect Alipay or WeChat Pay QR codes, so set one up before you go and carry a backup payment method.
