Shenzhen APEC 2026: Dates, Road Closures and Half-Price Metro

By Normal mode⏱ 3 min✔ Last verified 22 October 2026

Short answer: Shenzhen hosts the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting on 18–19 November 2026, and the city is treating 16–20 November as summit week. Expect temporary road closures, half-price metro and buses, and tighter security. If your dates are flexible, plan around it. If you need to be in Shenzhen that week, use the metro rather than cars.

  • Metro and bus fares are 50% off during the meeting, and the metro may run more often and later.
  • 50 new feeder bus routes link to metro stations, with bus capacity up by about 20%.
  • Temporary traffic controls by area, time and road. Details will come out in batches closer to the date.
  • Companies are encouraged to let staff work from home, stagger hours or take leave, so commuter traffic should be lighter.
  • Not announced yet: specific road closures, effects on border crossings, and attraction closures. We’ll update this page when they’re published.

  1. Use the metro, not taxis or Didi. Roads near venues and official hotels may close at short notice.
  2. Allow extra time at the border. Expect tighter security at Hong Kong–Shenzhen crossings. The new 24-hour Huanggang Port is the most flexible. The Hong Kong government’s official notice on transport to the new Huanggang Port has the details.
  3. Book hotels early. Delegations and media will fill central hotels.
  4. Carry your passport at all times. Expect more ID checks at stations and venues.
  5. Set up payment before you arrive:

The leaders’ meeting is on 18–19 November 2026. Related events run through 16–20 November.

You don’t have to. The metro will be cheaper and more frequent, but expect road closures and more security checks.

No closures have been announced as of 22 October 2026.
