Does PayPal Work in China? Patchy — How to Fix It (2026)

Short answer: Partly. PayPal's site and app mostly load on Chinese networks, though HTTPS is intermittent, and PayPal is not accepted by most Chinese shops except through a new QR-pay feature for US users. Verified 30 October 2026.

GreatFire shows paypal.com is not blocked overall, but HTTPS is intermittent, many subpages are disrupted, and /donate is blocked. In 2026 PayPal and Tencent's TenPay Global launched in-store QR payments at Weixin Pay merchants for US-based PayPal users. Other markets are meant to follow, and users need the latest app, enough PayPal balance and location services on. Outside that feature, shops, taxis and apps in China expect Alipay or WeChat Pay, not PayPal.
