Zhangjiajie for First-Time Visitors: Airport, Metro, Payments & Tickets (2026)

Short answer: Zhangjiajie is two places: Tianmen Mountain is in the city, the Avatar pillars (National Forest Park) are in Wulingyuan, about 40–50 min away. Book Tianmen with your passport and stay in Wulingyuan for the forest park.

Visa-free entry and 240-hour transit

Zhangjiajie's airport is a designated port for 240-hour visa-free transit. If you fly on to a third country or region, you can stay up to 10 days and travel across the 24 permitted provinces (Tibet, Xinjiang and a few other regions are not included).

Metro and taxis

Metro: No metro. Use Didi or hotel pickups; inside the forest park, free shuttle buses link the main areas. Set up Alipay with your foreign card before you fly as a backup.

Didi: Didi works in the city and Wulingyuan. Enter your hotel's Chinese address, not the park name, or you may end up at the wrong gate. See how to use Didi as a foreigner.
